Cherry. Strawberry. Vanilla. Dark chocolate. Almond. The volume turned down, the depth turned up.
Most Indonesian coffee on UK shelves is wet-hulled, earthy, heavy-bodied. The classic profile. Kevin and Kenny Soewondo are doing something else.
The brothers from Surabaya started in coffee by opening a café. Then a roastery. Then, when they realised they couldn't get the green they wanted, they began processing it themselves at the foothills of Mt. Ijen, an active volcano in East Java. Kevin travelled to Colombia to earn his Q Processing Level 3 qualification. They invested in a cherry colour sorter for consistency. For the 2025 season they added a mechanical drier because East Java weather doesn't always cooperate.
The result is a careful natural that tastes more like the Americas than its postcode. Cherry and strawberry at the top, vanilla in the middle, dark chocolate at the finish, almond holding the centre. 1,100–1,500 metres. SCA 85.25 — the most interesting Indonesian coffee we've cupped in years.
Roasted to order in Manchester. Roast date stamped on every bag. Free UK delivery over £30.
