We Started With a Single Question

What makes coffee taste like this? Not the caffeine. Not the ritual. The flavour — the way a single cup can be chocolatey and nutty one morning, bright and fruity the next. The complexity that most people never notice because nobody ever told them to look for it. That question changed everything for us.

From Venezuela to Manchester

Carlos, the founder of Indigo Coffee Project, grew up in Venezuela surrounded by coffee. It was never just a drink — it was how his family started every morning, how conversations happened, how the day began. But it wasn't until he moved to Manchester to learn English that he discovered how deep the rabbit hole goes. He came to stay for a year. He never left. Manchester gave him a community, a city that takes its food and drink seriously, and a place to build something. Indigo Coffee Project was born here — and this city is where every bag is roasted, to order, before it reaches you.

The Part Nobody Talks About

Before coffee reaches your cup, those beans have passed through over a thousand pairs of hands. Farmers who planted and tended the trees. Pickers who harvested each cherry at exactly the right moment. Processors who transformed the fruit into the green bean that eventually makes its way to our roastery in Manchester. These people are responsible for everything that makes specialty coffee worth drinking — and they are almost never mentioned. At Indigo, we think that needs to change. Every coffee we source comes with a story, and we tell it. Not as a marketing exercise, but because we genuinely believe that when you know where your coffee comes from, it tastes better. And when you buy it, you're part of something bigger than a transaction.

What We Actually Do

We source coffees that score 85+ on the SCA scale — not because the number matters, but because that's what coffees with genuine character, natural sweetness, and a real connection to their origin taste like. We roast to order. Every bag is roasted specifically for your order — never sitting on a shelf, never stale. We roast to express each coffee's best self, not to a fixed house style. And we keep it honest. No jargon. No gatekeeping. Specialty coffee is for everyone who's curious enough to try it.

This Is Your Cause Too

When you buy from Indigo, you're not just getting exceptional coffee. You're choosing a roaster that pays attention to where it comes from, who grew it, and what it took to get it here. You're helping us tell the stories that deserve to be told. And you're drinking something genuinely worth drinking.

Welcome to Indigo Coffee Project.
